Avon 134

Professor Gary E. Stevens, from Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY, tells us about a variant edition of Avon 134, Georgia Boy, by Erskine Caldwell. This is an anthology of stories, but the one shown at the top of this page contained 127 pages, while the one at the bottom had 191 pages. Gary included scans of the tables of
contents of each edition, to illustrate the additional stories in the
larger volume. This was the point in the run of Avon books (around
1947-48) that the company transitioned their back cover styles from the
Shakespeare head in an oval frame to the one on the left side; so
normally, we would assume that the larger volume came first, since it had
the earlier style.
